National Human Trafficking Awareness Month Events

SlaveFree Madison marked National Human Trafficking Awareness Month with three events:

Design A Future Without Trafficking: This interactive community event marked National Human Trafficking Awareness Day on Jan. 11 with creativity, education and action. We were joined by Project Respectand Biarpatch (Youth Services of Southern Wisconsin) for education, and Poonam Rao from Celebrations Art Studio led a t-shirt design project.

SlaveFree Madison Film Festival:This year's theme was US TEENS & TRAFFICKING, and we showed the films two weekends in a row at two libraries--Madison Public Library and Fitchburg Public Library.  Panelists included representatives from the Worker's Rights Center, Project Respect, Briarpatch, the US Department of Justice (WI Western District), the Madison Police Department and more.

All in all, we had almost 200 attendees at these three events, and also received local media coverage on WKOW-27
